FOOD SAFETY Basics Training Course
(Food Handler Training Certification)

Examination Based on the Ontario Ministry of Health Food Handler Training Protocol

National Environmental Health Association - Registered Food Safety Trainer

  • Training course designed for food handlers including professional cooks, volunteers, and people in the community that are interested in being certified as a food handler.
  • Will help you to ensure that the food you prepare at work, home, or your community event is safe
  • Course format combines easy to follow classroom instruction, practical demonstrations and student participation
  • Objective is to provide the students with new concepts, reinforce existing knowledge, and answer any food safety or Regulatory questions in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere
  • Topics covered include food safety hazards, microbiology, personal hygiene, temperature control, cleaning and sanitizing, cooking temperatures, allergies, food safety regulations, and the role of the local health unit (Ont. Ministry of Health Protocol - Health Unit Curriculum)
  • Course material and instruction will provide the knowledge, information, and skills necessary for the students to take the certification exam based on the Ministry of Health Food Handler Training Protocol
  • Examination consists of (50) multiple choice questions taken from a bank of Health Unit exam questions and is taken onsite at the end of the training course
  • Alternate examination formats / times can be arranged based on student needs

We provide convenient and low cost seminars and workshops to meet the needs of volunteer and community organizations that require dynamic food safety training opportunities for their members.

  • Fight BAC - general food safety principles
  • Food safety at home
  • Caregiver food safety for seniors
  • How to conduct a safe and successful community event (Special Occasions)
  • When the Provincial Food Safety Laws apply and how to ensure your compliance

Seminars and workshops:

  • Provided onsite at community facilities
  • Provided evenings and weekends based on client availability
  • 3-4 hours in length
  • No examination required
  • Use the same demonstrations, and hands-on activities as the certification course
